How-To Guide & Feature Overview
Welcome to the IROPS Dashboard. This guide will walk you through the key features and how to use them to monitor and anticipate weather-related operational impacts.
The Dashboard View
The main dashboard is your primary source of at-a-glance information. It's divided into several key areas:
- Advisory Banners: At the very top, bright red or orange banners will appear if any of your active hubs have an active FAA Ground Stop or Ground Delay program. These indicate immediate, high-impact IROPS.
- Briefing Summary: This section provides a high-level text summary of the weather outlook for "Today", "Tomorrow", and "The day after" across all your active hubs. It groups hubs by their overall IROPS risk level.
- Hub Cards: The main area is composed of cards, one for each of your active hubs. These cards are your main tool for detailed analysis. On desktop, you can drag-and-drop these cards to change their order.
- Future Days: Forecasts for "Tomorrow" and "The day after" are available in collapsible accordion sections at the bottom of the page to keep the main view focused on today.
Understanding a Hub Card
Each hub card is a dense summary of weather conditions for a specific airport.
Here's a breakdown of what you're seeing:
- Header: Shows any active weather alerts (e.g., Tornado Watch), Ground Stop info, or Ground Delay info.
- Airport Info: The airport's name, IATA code, and city.
- Forecasts: A short text forecast for the day, current temperature, and wind conditions. You can click "Detailed Forecast" to expand a more in-depth text forecast.
- Aviation Forecast Discussion: A button to open a modal with the raw, detailed forecast discussion written by meteorologists for pilots and dispatchers.
- Risk Assessment: A color-coded box that gives an overall daily IROPS risk assessment based on the percentage of hours with severe weather or other hazards.
- Hourly Breakdown: A 24-hour bar at the bottom. Each colored block represents one hour of the day. The color indicates the highest weather risk for that hour.
The hourly breakdown bar at the bottom of each hub card is interactive. Click on any hour block to open a detailed modal view for that specific hour.
This modal provides:
- Specific weather details for the hour (temp, wind, forecast text).
- A Runway Safety Analysis, which calculates crosswinds for each runway and assesses its safety based on aircraft limitations.
- Any FAA Events or advisories scheduled for that hour, with abbreviations translated for clarity.
- Any active weather alerts or archived ground stop/delay information for that hour.
Icons on the hour blocks give you a hint of what's inside: ❗ indicates an FAA advisory, and 🛑 indicates a ground stop.
You can customize which airports appear on your dashboard and in what order.
- Go to Menu > Edit Hubs. This will open the Hubs Editor.
- The editor has two panels: Active Hubs (shown on your dashboard) and Inactive Hubs.
- On Desktop: Simply drag and drop cards between the two lists or re-order them within the "Active Hubs" list.
- On Mobile: Use the buttons on each card to move it up/down in the active list, or to move it between the active and inactive lists.
- Presets: You can load a pre-configured set of hubs using the "Load Preset" dropdown.
Your custom layout is saved using a cookie, so you'll need to accept the cookie consent banner for this feature to work across sessions. Changes are broadcast to all users in real-time.
The application saves hourly snapshots of weather and FAA data. You can view this historical data using the Calendar.
- Go to Menu > Calendar View.
- The calendar will highlight all dates for which archived data is available.
- Click on any highlighted date to load the dashboard for that day.
When viewing an archive, a banner will appear at the top of the page to remind you that you are not looking at live data. The dashboard will only show data for the selected day.
